Remember a 1983 movie called American Success Company? You’re not alone, hardly anybody does. The movie was released by is writer-director William Richert (WINTER KILLS, JIMMY REARDON et. al.) in only a few cities before his indie distribution company THE INVISIBLE STUDIO, which he founded with Fox Executive VP Claire Townsend, ran out of funding. Starring Jeff Bridges, Belinda Bauer, Ned Beatty, and Bianca Jagger, this comedy-drama modern fairy tale was never released on VHS, let alone DVD.
Prior to a miraculous recent restoration of a badly damaged Success original answer print, only a few dubs of the obscure film were known to exist, including one according to Tech Digest proudly owned by Steven Spielberg. Starring Jeff Bridges, Belinda Bauer, Ned Beatty, and Bianca Jagger, this comedy-drama is a modern fairy tale about a man who creates a crook double of himself to win the love of his wife, and get back her 5 million dollar inheritance. But his beautiful wife (Belinda Bauer) falls in love with the criminal "double" he has created to fool his father-in-law and the corporation that controls it all.
